Our after-school planning and curriculum teams work closely together to create a thoughtful programme of activities for the first weeks of term. These activities are designed not only to entertain children, but also to help them settle into their new surroundings, form friendships and build trusting relationships with our team.
A Warm and Welcoming Start
From the moment children arrive, our aim is to help them feel safe, included and comfortable. We introduce routines gently and give every child time to explore the setting at their own pace. Familiar activities, welcoming spaces and friendly conversations help children understand what to expect and reassure them that Lyon’s Den is a place where they belong.
Our team is ready to offer encouragement and support, whether a child arrives full of confidence or needs a little more time to feel at ease. We recognise that every child experiences change differently, so our approach is flexible, patient and centred on the individual.
Activities That Help Friendships Grow
Making new friends is an important part of settling into an after-school environment. During the back-to-school period, we plan engaging group games, creative projects and cooperative challenges that make it easier for children to talk, laugh and work together.
Simple welcome games help children learn one another’s names and discover shared interests. Team activities encourage communication and cooperation, while arts and crafts give children a relaxed way to express themselves and connect with others. We also provide quieter choices for children who prefer to build relationships gradually or in smaller groups.
These shared experiences create natural opportunities for new friendships to grow, without making children feel pressured. Most importantly, they allow everyone to take part in a way that feels right for them.
Getting to Know Every Child
