Keep Your Child Safe in the Sun

As we are approaching the summer and the weather has been warm we want to ensure that all children at our creche stay safe and protected while enjoying outdoor activities. In line with guidance from the HSE’s SunSmart campaign, we are taking important steps to promote sun safety and would appreciate your support.
Here’s how you can help us keep your child safe in the sun:
Apply Sunscreen:
Please apply a high-factor, broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50) to your child before they arrive each morning. Staff will reapply sunscreen throughout the day as needed (every 2 hours and 20 minutes before going outside). Please ensure you have provided a clearly labelled bottle of your child’s sunscreen.
Sun Hats:
Ensure your child brings a sun hat each day, labelled and ideally one with a wide brim or neck flap to protect their face, ears, and neck as is recommended for sun safety.
Protective Clothing:
Dress your child in light, loose-fitting clothing that covers as much skin as possible (e.g., long-sleeved t-shirts and longer shorts please).
Why is this important?
Children’s skin is especially sensitive to UV rays, and sun damage in childhood can increase the risk of skin cancer later in life. By working together, we can create safe and fun outdoor experiences for all our children in our care
